This is a letter we received from a French student named Julien who studied at Intrax in Chicago. He wrote the entire thing in English to explain how his time at Intrax was.

By Diana Wlaschitz Lopes. My experience with learning English has been a long and exciting journey, which I can divide in two parts: my studies in my country, Brazil, and my studies abroad.
First, it started when I was at the middle school, but at this time I didn’t give the right importance to the language, I think I just treated English as other subjects at school that I need memorize just to past in the exams. This way to study during the middle school was completely opposite to my second experience, studying abroad.

Travelling is absolutely my passion Number One. I love it; it is like a drug for me; I cannot stay at home for more than 3 months without going away: doesn’t matter where, doesn’t matter how, doesn’t matter with whom. I just could get crazy without moving. But travelling is not only a passion, it is also related to some reasons that inspired me to come to the USA to study English.
When I was a little girl, I wanted to be an astronaut, the president, a football player, a movie star, a housekeeper—and that was just in a week. I never took my dolls and lined them up to teach them. I either wanted to take them to Pluto with me or put them on the line of scrimmage so I could plow them over to score the winning touchdown.

Two weeks ago I went to the Social Security Office to apply for my social security number. That day I didn’t feel good. Being in the U.S and putting my effort to adopt new atmosphere for about 3 weeks made me totally exhausted. Also the homeless and dirty people who I passed by on my way to the office made me more depressed at that day. I was about to hate everything about the U.S
Here is Yu-Ling's winning entry to Intrax's writing contest. Originally from Taiwan she left her family, including her baby, to come Intrax and improve her English so that she can advance her career. Here is her story:
"In Taiwan, I am a hard-worker. My friends are always saying, “You are not at home, you'll be in the office or on the way there.” I had a lot of achievements in my job, but I also ignored a lot of fun in the world. I came to America not only to improve my English, but also to get back my passion for life.
Why are we called “explorers”? Because we are all about learning new things, traveling to new places, meeting new people and exploring more of the world! Come here to read and see what we are up to as we study, travel and work in the U.S.
